Manage Distractions Behind the Wheel
From phones to infotainment systems, modern cars come with countless distractions. Defensive drivers eliminate them.
Common Distractions:
- Texting or calling
- Using navigation systems
- Adjusting climate controls
- Eating or drinking
- Daydreaming or fatigue
- Loud passengers
- Trying to reach for items
Elimination Strategies:
- Set your GPS before driving
- Use hands-free calling
- Put your phone in the glove box
- Eat before or after your drive
- Get adequate sleep before driving
- Keep valuables out of sight
- Ask passengers to help with navigation
The Cost of Distraction:
At 55 mph, checking your phone for 5 seconds means driving the length of a football field blind. That's not worth the risk.
